Scott and Penn State finished this year with a 31-6-2 record and an .820 winning percentage. The 31 wins were tied for the 2nd most in Penn State team history, despite having only 1 senior on the team. The Nittany Lions headed into the ACHA Men's Division 1 National Tournament as the #1 ranked team in the country, and finished the season as the ACHA Men's Division 1 National Runners-Up, the 10th consecutive National Championship Game appearance for Penn State.
Scott is no stranger to the Penn State program. Scott was a Penn State Assistant Coach from 1997-99 and 2002-06 and has been an integral part of three ACHA Men's Division 1 National Championship teams. He succeeded Joe Battista, the winningest coach in Penn State history, and a 2-time ACHA Men's Division 1 Coach-of-the-Year Award himself. In addition to coaching Penn State, Scott also has marketing responsibilities as the Program/Marketing Coordinator of Ice Sports and the Penn State Ice Pavilion.
Scott is originally from Salem, NH, and played high school hockey at St. Johns Prep School in Danvers where he won a New England Catholic Conference Championship in 1992. He was then recruited and played as a full scholarship defenseman for NCAA Division 1 Providence College from 1992-1996. A defensive defenseman, he tallied 13 goals and 41 assists in 138 career games with the Friars. His collegiate career culminated with the Friars beating Boston University and then Maine to capture the Hockey East championship in 1996. He obtained a baccalaureate degree in Business Management from Providence in 1996.
Scott is well known in collegiate hockey circles and has been a tireless recruiter and outstanding bench coach for Penn State. Scott is very familiar with the Icers program and hopes to continue the academic and athletic excellence the program currently enjoys. He has also served as Assistant Director of the Penn State Hockey Camps in the past and now serves as the Director.
Since returning to State College in 2002, Scott has been President and Founder of both MAT Realty, LLC, a real estate investment company, and Nittany Brokerage, a full-service investment brokerage firm. Scott has worked for the last 4 years as the Branch Manager, building and developing a local insurance agency, Saleme Insurance.

Tournament Wrap Up
March 7, 2007
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA.The Penn State Icers made it to their 10th consecutive ACHA title game, but fell to Oakland University 5-1 Sunday.
Penn State, seeded No. 1 going into the tournament, fell in the title game while seeking its eighth national title. After taking an early 1-0 lead on a shot by Matt Schwartz, the Icers allowed five unanswered goals. The game was tied at one a piece heading into the third period, but three goals by Will McMahon in the period put the game out of reach.
This is the fourth straight loss in the title game for the Icers whose last title win came in 2003 against rival Ohio University. The Icers defeated Robert Morris, Liberty, and Delaware en route to the title game.
Oakland won their first title at the Div. I-level after winning two out of the previous three titles at the Div. II-level. Forward Will McMahon accounted for four of Oaklands five goals. McMahon scored eight goals in four games and earned him Most Valuable Player honors for the tournament. Earlier in the season, Oakland handed Penn State a 4-1 loss in Michigan.
The Icers will return all of their players for the 2007-2008 season except senior goaltender Chris Matteo. Matteo, the teams lone senior, never experienced the joy of winning an ACHA title, but isnt disappointed about his time spent with the Icers.
A lot of guys expressed that they wanted to send me out with a victory, Matteo said. But you cant have that sometimes. You just have to learn from it and move on.
Four Icers were named to the 2007 ACHA All-Tournament team. Keith Jordan and Mike McMullen were named to the first All-Tournament team, while Nate Obringer and Matt Schwartz were nominated to the second. Honorable Mentions are yet to be released.

Icers Play Last Home Game before National Tournament
February 21, 2007
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.-The No. 1 Penn State Icers (27-7-0, 24-5-0 ACHA) return to the Ice Pavilion this Friday to play their last home game against the University of Maryland (7-17-1) before entering the ACHA National Tournament. Game time is set for 9 p.m.
The Icers are looking forward to the playoffs, but want to end the season on a winning note after splitting a pair of away games last weekend. This weekend's game against Maryland could set the tone for the Icers in the ACHA playoffs, which begin the following week.
Penn State has had a spectacular regular season with 12 Icers recording at least five goals and 10 Icers tallying at least 10 assists. The Icers have displayed many weapons on offense this season, but don't overlook their defense. The goalie combination of Nick Signet and Chris Matteo have provided the Icers with steady play in front of the net with both allowing around two goals per game (Signet - 1.98, Matteo - 2.16). Matteo, the team's lone senior, will be playing his final home game in front of the Icer crowd.
The Maryland Terrapins have played well as of late, winning three out of their past four games. Mark Henninger leads the Terps with 13 goals, while Stephen (Augie) Gardner has the team high in assists with 16. The team is coached by Nelson Burton who is currently finishing his second season as head coach.
After Friday night's game the Icers will prepare for their first opponent in the upcoming ACHA Division I National Tournament. The Icers, who are seeded No. 1, will face No. 16-seeded Robert Morris (Pa.) Feb. 28 at 4 p.m. at the Ice Zone in Youngstown, Ohio.
The five day, 16-team tournament will be highly competitive, bringing together the best teams in the ACHA. The Icers hope to capitalize on their seeding and return to the ACHA National Championship Game in hopes of appearing in their 10th consecutive title game.

Rams Fall in Shootout
February 3, 2007
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.-Mike McMullen got the game winner in a sudden death shootout as the No. 2 Penn State Icers (25-5-0, 23-3-0 ACHA) overcame a two goal deficit to defeat the No. 5 Rhode Island Rams 3-2.
The Rams grabbed the lead in the first period when David Berardinelli and Eric Hoberg netted two goals. Berardinelli slipped a shot past Icers' goaltender Chris Matteo at the 12:26 mark while Hogberg registered his goal six minutes later.
After a penalty-ridden first period for the Icers, the team settled down in the second period. The Icers Lukas DeLorenzo redirected a shot from teammate Keith Jordan 16:21 into the period to keep the game within reach heading into the third period.
DeLorenzo would get his second goal of the game 7:41 into the third period when he knocked in a shot while the Icers were on the power play. The two teams remained deadlocked at 2-2 and headed to a five-minute sudden death after the third expired.
When no team scored in sudden death, the game went to a five-on-five shootout. McMullen was the first to shoot and scored, recording the eventual game winner after the Rams failed to put any shots past Matteo. Frank Berry and Nate Obringer also added goals in the shootout to win the shootout for the Icers 3-0.
The Icers play at Ohio University this Friday and Saturday with game times set for 7:30 p.m. in each. The Icers will return to the Ice Pavilion for their final home game against Maryland on Feb. 23.

February 3, 2007
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.-The No. 2 Icers (24-5-0, 22-3-0 ACHA) registered two early goals and never looked back delivering a 6-1 victory over the No. 5 Rhode Island Rams in front of a packed Ice Pavilion.
In a rematch of last year's ACHA National Championship game, the Scott Dakan netted the Icers' first goal of the game 6:44 seconds into the first period. Jamie Zimmel rifled a shorthanded slapshot past Rams' goaltender Anthony Feyock four minutes later to put the Icers up two goals heading into the second.
In the second period, the Icers recorded two more goals off the sticks of Dave Herel and Brandon Rubeo. The coach of the Rams, Joe Augustine, saw enough and pulled Feyock for Ron Stenger after Rubeo scored his goal. Stenger wouldn't face much better with the Icers adding two more goals in the third.
The Icers' Lukas DeLorenzo and Paul Zodtner rounded out the scoring with goals in the third. The Icers gave up a goal late in the third when the Rams' Anthony Rowell got a shot past Icers' goaltender Chris Matteo.
Shots on goal were nearly even with the Icers recording 37 compared to the Rams' 35. The Icers retain a perfect 3-0 record against the Rams this season since losing 3-1 to the Rams in last year's ACHA National Championship.
The two teams square off again tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. at the Ice Pavilion. Admission is $7.50 for adults and $5 for students with IDs.

This marks the second meeting between the two teams since last year's National Championship Game in which the Rams defeated the Icers 3-1. The perennial powerhouses played a pair of games earlier this season at Boss Arena in November. The Icers won both games, 5-2 and 4-3.

Icers Fall in Shootout
January 27, 2007
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.-Duquesne University gave the No. 2 Penn State Icers (23-5-0, 21-3-0 ACHA) all they could handle Saturday afternoon as the Dukes defeated the Icers 4-3 in a sudden death shootout at the Ice Pavilion.
After a scoreless overtime that left the two teams tied at three goals apiece, the game went into a five-on-five shootout. Duquesne's Mike Papciak pocketed the winning goal for the Dukes after a controversial call on a supposed shot attempt by the Icers Kyle Mills. Mills would have had a chance to win the game, but never shot the puck because he started and stopped his progression due to confusion over when he could take his shot. A linesman ruled that because Mills had started his forward progression and stopped that his attempt was over and no redo would be allowed.
In the beginning of the game, the two teams remained scoreless until the start of the second period. In the second, the Icers recorded two goals within the first five minutes of the period from Paul Zodtner and Nate Obringer. The Dukes responded with a goal from Papciak at the 9:59 mark only to see the Icers register another goal off the stick of Brandon Rubeo three minutes later. Not to be outdone, Duquesne scored again when Mike Heath rifled a shot on net to keep the score close at 3-2 heading into the third.
Duquesne's Si Bishop got the equalizer in the third when he scored on a power play 5:52 into the period. The Icers had opportunities to score in the third and in the four-on-four overtime that ensued, but couldn't capitalize on some of Duquesne's mistakes. The Dukes won the resulting shootout 3-2 and escaped Happy Valley with a 4-3 victory.
The Icers face No. 5 Rhode Island at home next Friday and Saturday in a rematch of last year's ACHA National Championship Game.

January. 27, 2007
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.-The No. 2 Penn State Icers (23-4-0, 21-2-0 ACHA) handed the Duquesne Dukes a 6-0 loss Friday night at the Ice Pavilion opening Alumni Weekend.
In the first of a two-game set, Icers forward Sean Kenney quickly put his team ahead when he netted a goal six minutes into the first period with a backhanded shot that got by Duquesne goaltender Matt Vaughan. That was all the scoring the Icers would need.
Jason Lorenz and Steve Peck each added goals in the second to put the Icers up by three goals heading into the third period. Lorenz scored 3:24 into the period by flipping a shot past Vaughan and Peck recorded his goal 16:08 into the period when he redirected a shot from fellow Icer Andrew Magulick.
The Icers put the game out of reach in the third period receiving goals from Andrew Magulick, Matt Schwartz, and Penn State's newest Icer Tim O' Brien.
The Icers were again playing without four of their starters (Frank Berry, Lukas DeLorenzo, Keith Jordan, Mike McMullen) due to the World University Games in Torino, Italy. The quartet represented Team USA for the past week and a half, but will rejoin the team next weekend. Team USA topped Korea 5-2 on Wednesday, but fell to the Czech Republic 3-0 on Thursday. Despite a 1-4 overall record, the Americans tied their all-time best finish by placing eighth in the games.
The Icers face Duquesne again today with game time set for 3:30 p.m. at the Ice Pavilion. Admission is $7.50 for adults and $5 for students with IDs.

Icers Take Two from Pittsburgh
January 20, 2007
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.-The No. 2 Icers (22-4-0, 20-2-0 ACHA) were too much for the University of Pittsburgh Saturday afternoon as they completed their two-game sweep of the Panthers with a 2-1 victory at the Ice Pavilion.
Pittsburgh jumped out to a 1-0 lead halfway through the first period when forward Mark Barakat netted the Panthers first goal of the series. The Icers responded with a goal of their own with 2:28 left in the first. Bryan Sobonya registered his first goal as an Icer redirecting a Kyle Mills shot past Pittsburgh goaltender Ed Nusser.
The two teams remained deadlocked at one goal apiece until the Icers' Jamie Zimmel scored on a breakaway on a pass from freshman Chris Lepore with 6:28 left in the second period. That was all the scoring that was needed as the Icers' defense held strong during the third period not allowing the Panthers to mount a legitimate attack.
Penn State accounted for 52 shots on goal while Pittsburgh managed 14.
The Icers will play Duquesne this Friday and Saturday during Alumni Weekend. Game times are set for 9 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., respectively.

Icers Pounce on Panthers
January 20, 2007
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.-The No. 2 Icers (21-4-0, 19-2-0 ACHA) returned home to a packed Ice Pavilion Friday night to defeat the University of Pittsburgh 7-0.
After spending a month away from home due to the holiday break, the Icers put on a show for the home crowd with six different Icers accounting for seven goals. The Icers' Chris Lepore opened up the scoring in the first when he fired a shot off the post that slipped into the net 9:02 into the period.
Icers' junior forward Matt Schwartz added two goals of his own in the third period to round out the scoring for the Icers. Other goals were scored by Steve Peck, Paul Zodtner, Jamie Zimmel, and Andrew Magulick.
From that point on the Icers held their interstate rival in check allowing the Panthers only 14 shots on goal to their 69.
The two teams meet again today in the Ice Pavilion at 3:30 p.m.
Admission to Icers' games is $7.50 for adults and $5 for students with IDs.
In other hockey news, the Icers' Keith Jordan was named assistant captain
for the 2007 U.S. University Select Team for the World University Games. Team
U.S. dropped its first two games this week to Canada and Slovakia.
Let's Play Two
January 17, 2007
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.-Fans will welcome home the return of their beloved Penn State Icers to the Ice Pavilion this weekend when the team hosts the University of Pittsburgh this Friday and Saturday. Game times are set for 9 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., respectively.
After winning two out of their past three road games to start 2007, the No. 2 Icers (20-4-0, 18-2-0 ACHA) are excited to resume play. The Icers have not played at home since Dec. 15 when they defeated Niagara University before breaking for the holiday season.
The Icers will be skating without forwards Mike McMullen, Lukas DeLorenzo, Frank Berry, and defenseman Keith Jordan who are currently representing Team USA at the World University Games in Italy from Jan. 17-27. The team looks at this as an opportunity to give some of its younger players more playing time in order to be better prepared for the post-season.
This is the first season the Pitt Panthers (5-11-1) will play in the American Collegiate Hockey Association's Division I program, after spending their previous nine in its Division II program. The Panthers split their first two games in January under the direction of fourth-year head coach Tom Rieck as they look to defeat their interstate rival.
Expectations are high for the Icers who had a 13-game winning streak during the first half of the season. The team looks to have a strong second half in hopes of returning to the ACHA National Championship Game.
Admission to Icers' games is $7.50 for adults and $5 for students with IDs.

Icers Open New Year on Road
January 9, 2007
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.-- The No. 2 Penn State Icers (18-3-0, 17-1-0 ACHA) return to the ice this week to play a trio of road games after a nearly month-long holiday break.
The Icers play No. 20 West Chester (11-3-1) Wednesday at 7:45 p.m., Scranton
(4-14-0)
Friday at 4:30 p.m., and No. 12 Delaware (9-5-2) Saturday at 5 p.m.
Penn State looks to improve upon a successful first half that saw them post
a 13-game
winning streak. After dropping a few spots in the ACHA rankings earlier in
the season, the Icers' torrid winning streak helped bump them back to the
No. 2 spot, where they began the season.
The Icers will have to start the second half of the season without a few of their key players due to the World University Games in Turin, Italy. Forwards Frank Berry and Lukas DeLorenzo, and defenseman Keith Jordan will join 19 other players to represent Team USA from Jan. 17-27.
More than 1,500 international athletes will compete in 11 sports during the World University Games, making it the second-largest sporting event in the world next to the Olympics. Berry, DeLorenzo, and Jordan will try and help Team USA past Canadian, Korean, Russian and Slovakian hockey teams.
After their three-game road campaign, the Icers return to the Ice Pavilion
for a six-game
homestand on Jan. 19 when they host Pittsburgh at 9 p.m.
Icers Take Win into Holiday Break
December 16, 2006
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.-Sean Kenney helped the Penn State Icers edge the Niagara University Purple Eagles Friday night collecting two goals en route to a 3-2 victory at the Ice Pavilion.
The now No. 2 ranked Icers (18-3-0, 17-1-0 ACHA) got on the board at the 13-minute mark in the first period when Kenney netted a goal that deflected off Niagara goaltender Parker Jones. Kenney later registered his second goal of the game on a power play early in the second period.
With the help of some precision passing from Matt Schwartz and Kyle Mills, Kenney knocked his second goal of the game to put the Icers up by two with 17:49 left in the period. Although the Icers took an early lead, Niagara was quick to respond.
Niagara's Michael Novosad got the Purple Eagles back in the game when he rifled a shot past Icer goaltender Nick Signet with 14:22 left in the second. A little more than two minutes later, Niagara got the equalizer when Christian Glowinski knocked in a shot from Mario Nucci.
The Icers grabbed the lead back in the third period when Andrew Magulick scored on a one-timer from Paul Zodtner. The goal put the Icers up for good and ensured that they would head into the holiday break with a win.
After a well-deserved break, Penn State will return to the ice Jan. 10 to play three straight games on the road beginning at West Chester. The Icers return to the Ice Pavilion Jan. 19 to host Pittsburgh.

Icers Wrap up First-Half against Niagara
December 13, 2006
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.--The No. 3 Penn State Icers (17-3-0, 16-1-0 ACHA) host the Niagara Purple Eagles (8-5-0) this Friday at 9 p.m. at the Ice Pavilion before breaking for the holiday season.
The Icers resume play in the ACHA after having their 13-game winning streak snapped over the weekend by the Windsor St. Clair Saints. The Icers managed a split with their Canadian opponents to avoid their first sweep at home since losing back-to-back games against Ohio last season.
With a victory against the Purple Eagles on Friday, the Icers will end the first-half of the season winning two games in a row and 15 out of their last 16.
Niagara has lost their last two contests and is looking for strong play from team-leaders Mario Nucci (12 goals) and Michael Novosad (14 assists) to end the first-half on a high note.
The Purple Eagles are coached by 2005-2006 CHA Coach of the Year Dave Burkholder who currently is in his sixth season as head coach.
After breaking for the holiday after Friday night's game, the Icers will resume play Jan 10. at West Chester.
Admission to Icers' games is $7.50 for adults and $5 for students with IDs.

Icers Salvage Split
December 9, 2006
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Jamie Zimmel scored two goals to help the Penn State Icers salvage a split against the Windsor St. Clair Saints Saturday afternoon at the Ice Pavilion with a 5-3 victory.
Sean Kenney got the scoring going for the No. 3 Icers (17-3-0, 16-1-0 ACHA) on the power play when he deposited a pass from Matt Schwartz at 6:19 into the first period to give the Icers their first goal in the two-game series.
The Saints quickly evened up the scoring 19 seconds later when Erik Stone slipped a shot past sophomore goaltender Nick Signet. The Icers then added another goal in the first off the stick of Zimmel only to see the Saints respond once again with a goal of their own to even the scoring at 2-2.
The Icers regained the lead early in the second period with a one-timer by captain Keith Jordan. Although the Saints again responded with a goal, assistant captain Michael McMullen netted a goal on a breakaway pass courtesy of Lukas DeLorenzo to take a 4-3 lead before the start of the third.
Zimmel picked up his second goal of the game halfway through the third to round out the scoring in the out-of-league game.
Penn State registered 25 shots on goal while their Canadian counterpart recorded 40.
The Icers will host Niagara this Friday at 9 p.m. before they return to the ice Jan. 10 at West Chester.

Icers' Streak Snapped by St. Clair
December 9, 2006
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The Penn State Icers' 13-game winning streak came to an abrupt halt Friday night when the Windsor St. Clair Saints handed them a 4-0 loss at the Ice Pavilion.
In an out-of-league game, the No. 3 Icers (16-3-0, 16-1-0 ACHA) fell behind early to their Canadian opponent when Saints forward Brandon Boyko netted two goals in the first period.
The Saints kept the scoring going in the second when Kyle Lang knocked in a shot 41 seconds into the period. The Saints tacked on another in the third when Jesse Ouimet got a shot past Icers' senior goaltender Chris Matteo who returned to the starting lineup from injury.
Despite the final score, the game was evenly matched for most of the contest. The Icers outshot the Saints 33-28, but saw a handful of their shots ricochet off the posts.
Coming into the game, the Icers had not lost since Oct. 20.
The Saints, out of Windsor, Ontario, are a member of the Ontario Hockey Association's AAA Hockey League and are considered ineligible to play in ACHA.
The Icers face the Saints again today at 3:30 p.m. at the Ice Pavilion. Admission to Icers' games is $7.50 for adults and $5 for students with IDs.

Icers Look to Extend Streak against Canadian Opponent
December 6, 2006
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.-The No. 3 Penn State Icers look to extend their 13-game winning streak this Friday and Saturday against the Windsor St. Clair Saints in an out-of-league match up. Game times are set for 9 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., respectively.
The Icers (16-2-0, 16-1-0 ACHA) handed a pair of losses over the weekend to No. 11 Delaware and have not lost a game since Oct. 20.
During the streak, the Icers have allowed only 14 goals in 13 games. This is a testament, not only sophomore goaltender Nick Signet who is averaging 1.77 goals allowed per game, but to Penn State's outstanding speed on defense. This speed has led to several scoring opportunities.
Junior forward Nate Obringer took over the team lead in goals (13) with his latest hat-trick performance against the Fightin' Blue Hens this past weekend and hopes to stay hot for the Icers' final few home games before Christmas break.
The Saints (11-2-0), out of Windsor, Ontario, began their first season as a member of the Ontario Hockey Association's AAA Hockey League this year under the direction of head coach Kevin Hamlin. Saints forward Jim Lebarron leads the team in goals (nine) and points (21).
Admission to Icers' games is $7.50 for adults and $5 for students with IDs.

The Fightin' Blue Hens (9-5-2) quickly responded with a goal of their own less than four minutes later, but the Icers regained the lead at the end of the first period when sophomore forward Lukas DeLorenzo scored his first of two goals when he knocked in a deflected shot by Frank Berry.
After Delaware evened up the scoring early in the second period, Junior forward Sean Kenney put the Icers up for good when he scored on a power play at 6:26 into the period. Rematch of National Championship Game
November 15, 2006
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.-The No. 3 ranked Penn State Icers (12-2, 12-1 ACHA) will square off against No. 2 ranked Rhode Island (13-2, 13-1 ACHA) this weekend in a rematch of last year's National Championship Game. The Icers play two games, Friday and Sunday, at Boss Arena with game time set for 7:30 p.m. in each.
The Icers enter the contest on a torrid pace winning their previous nine games. During these nine games, the Icers have allowed only five goals including five shutouts. Offensively, the Icers have shared the wealth with 13 of their players registering atleast two goals.
The Rhode Island Rams have won six out of their last seven games including a pair of wins over Navy this past weekend. The Rams are led by senior forward Mike Curran who has the team high in goals (12) and points (26) and are coached by Joe Augustine who is in his 18th season at the university.
The Rams defeated the Icers in the championship game last year 3-1 in large part because of the play of goalie Anthony Feyock who was named the tournament's most valuable player. This year the senior goaltender is allowing 0.92 goals per game, which is tops among goaltenders in the ACHA who have logged at least 350 minutes.

Icers Extend Winning Streak
November 10, 2006
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Sean Kenney and Matt Schwartz each scored two goals to help the No. 3 ranked Icers past No. 19 ranked West Chester Friday night 6-1.
The Icers (10-2, 10-1 ACHA) extended their winning streak to seven games and remain undefeated at home with the win.
West Chester jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Chris Orlando scored on a power play 6:52 into the first period. From that point on the Icers registered six unanswered goals.
Kenney evened up the scoring in the first when he knocked in his fourth goal of the season from Mike Deithorn and Mark Orlando at 11:49 into the period. Steve Peck put the Icers up for good towards the end of the period when he put a shot past West Chester goalie Corey Hackney with 5:41 left.
The Icers padded their lead with two goals in the second period and two more goals in the third. Schwartz landed his first goal of the game and Keith Jordan added another goal in the second. In the third, Kenney and Schwartz each picked up their second goals of the game to round out the scoring. Both of Schwartz's goals were shorthanded.
The Icers outshot the Golden Rams 51-21 en route to their tenth victory of the season.
The Icers travel to the Ice Castle in Pittsburgh tomorrow to play Duquesne at 8 p.m. They then head to West Virginia on Sunday to play the Mountaineers at 4 p.m.
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The No. 3 ranked Penn State Icers (9-2-0, 9-1-0, ACHA) will ride a six-game winning streak into this weekend when they play three games in three days.
After hosting No. 19 West Chester this Friday at 9 p.m. at the Greenberg Ice Pavilion, the Icers will take to the road to face Duquesne on Saturday at 8 p.m. then No. 14 West Virginia on Sunday at 4 p.m. Saturday's game at Duquesne is scheduled for the Ice Castle in Pittsburgh.
No. 19 West Chester (6-5-0) heads into Friday's match-up winning their last three games. West Chester started the season at No. 15, but has been holding steady within the top 20. The Golden Rams are led by Rob Troxell with a team-high 16 points and coached by Mark Gonsalves.
Duquesne (1-10-1) started out the season ranked ninth in the ACHA, but quickly fell out of the rankings after a disappointing start to the season. The Dukes have not won in their previous eight games. They are led by Mike Heath who is second in the ACHA in goals and sixth in points. The Dukes are coached by Mike Sargo.
No. 14 West Virginia (9-7-0) has dropped four straight games including a loss to the Icers last Friday night. The Mountaineers are coached by Adam Blaine, 2005-2006 ECHA Coach of the Year, who led the team to their first winning season seven years last year.
Admission to Icers' games is $7.50 for adults and $5 for students with IDs.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The Penn State Icers gave No. 13 West Virginia all they could handle Friday night as the Icers downed the Mountaineers 6-0 at the Greenberg Ice Pavilion.
Riding an emotional high after a pair of wins last weekend over rival Ohio University, the No. 3 ranked Penn State Icers (8-2, 8-1 ACHA) showed no signs of a let down.

In a penalty-ridden second period, the Icers picked up four goals from Matt Schwartz, McMullen, Berry, and freshman Dave Herel. For Herel, it was his first goal as an Icer knocking a back-handed pass from Mark Orlando into the net.
The Icers capped their scoring in the third when Obringer picked up his second goal of the night at 1:24 into the period.
West Virginia couldn't get anything going all night as the Penn State defense held steady. The Icers outshot the Mountaineers 57-8. Sophomore goaltender Nick Signet continued his impressive play. In his past five games he has allowed only two goals.

Scott Balboni
Article October 11, 2006
By Damon Laabs
State College, Pa. - When longtime Penn State Icers head coach Joe Battista
decided to step down from coaching to become executive director of the Nittany
Lion Club, the team was in need of a new head coach. They didn't look any
further than their own backyard.
This past June, nearly three months after Battista's departure from the Icers, a committee made up of administrators, important personnel and current players selected assistant coach Scott Balboni as the next head coach of the Penn State Icers. Well-known among collegiate hockey circles, Balboni is poised to inherit a team that has won seven ACHA National Titles while appearing in a record nine consecutive national title games.
"I've been around the program for eight years," Balboni said. "Not a tremendous amount is going to change. The program is going to remain basically the same."
Serving as an Icer assistant from 1997-99 and 2002-06, Balboni has been an integral part of three ACHA National Championship teams.
Hockey has been a focal point for Balboni most of his life. Growing up next to a pond in Salem, N.H., he took a liking to the sport from an early age. Every winter when the temperature froze the pond, he would skate with other kids in the community.
"I got into playing [hockey] on the pond with them and found out I was pretty good at it," Balboni said.
Balboni was so good that after he helped his high school hockey team at St. John's Prep school in Danvers, Mass. to a New England Catholic Conference championship in 1992, he was recruited by Divison I Providence College. Playing as a defensive defenseman on full scholarship for Providence from 1992-96, Balboni helped the Friars capture the Hockey East championship in 1996. He finished he collegiate career with 13 goals and 41 assists in 138 career games. He graduated with a baccalaureate degree in Business Management and an Insurance minor in 1996.
Shortly after leaving Providence, Balboni participated in a training camp with Pensacola, a AA affiliate, in the East Coast Hockey League. After going through a bit of the preseason Balboni decided that playing professional hockey just wasn't for him.
"I didn't like it at all. I didn't like what I was making," commented Balboni. "I knew I was never going to go above that minor league level...so I got out of it."
But when one door shut, another opened. Although Balboni could have returned home to aid his father's insurance business, he decided to contact his coaches at Providence. It just so happened that they attended a coach's convention where Battista had an ad posted for a coaching position with the Icers. Balboni quickly repsonded to the posting and was able to set up a meeting with Battista at Penn State.
"I drove right from Pensacola on the way back to Penn State," Balboni said. "I didn't know anything about club hockey at the time, but saw that [the program] was run basically like a Division I program. They did everything as well if not better than we did at Providence."
After working under Battista for a few years, Balboni returned to New England due to family obligations. Spending a short time outside the city of Boston, the Balboni family grew disenchanted with the area.
"My wife (whom he met while working at the Ice Pavilion) hated living right outside of Boston with a passion, hated it," Balboni said jokingly. "We had an opportunity to come back to State College and we took it."
Upon returning to State College, Balboni founded and ran two investment companies and has worked as branch manager of Saleme Insurance for the past four years. His success away from the ice followed suit with his success on the ice. As the Icers continued playing well, Balboni's relationship with Battista grew with Balboni naming Battista his daughter's godfather four years ago.
"Joe is as much a part of my family away from the rink as he is obviously in the rink," remarked Balboni. "I bet i've talked to [him] every day or atleast every other day for the last six or seven years."
Looking forward to his first season as head coach, Balboni exudes confidence about his 2006-2007 Icers.
"A lot of our offensive fire power is all back from our goal production last year," Balboni said. "We have great depth and our defense will be very strong."
Balboni is confident that his team has the talent to return to the national championship and is still excited of his appointment to head coach.
"In all honesty it's unbelievable to walk into a program like this," Balboni said. "I played at Providence which puts people right into the NHL and Olympic teams right from the school and we didn't have half the stuff that we have here at Penn State from the support end." -- referring to the academic supporters, volunteers, booster club, and alumni who aid the Icers in a number of ways. "A lot of that is attributed to Joe Battista who built this program literally from nothing to what it is today and that's what I want to try to continue and move forward."
Balboni currently resides in Port Matilda with his wife, Mary, and their
two children, A.J., 8, and Taylor, 4.
Teams Clash in Home-Opening Weekend
October 11, 2006
UNIVERSITY PARK, P.A. -- Scranton (2-1) and Navy (4-0) invade the Ice Pavilion this weekend when the No. 2 ranked Penn State Icers (1-1, 1-0 ACHA) open their home schedule. The Icers face Scranton in their home opener Friday at 9 p.m. then square-off against Navy on Sunday at noon.
After splitting road games this past weekend, the Icers are ready to open their home schedule in front of their fans.
"We worked hard this past weekend and unfortunately every time we made a mistake [our opponents] capitalized," said head coach Scott Balboni. "This weekend we look to get back on track and to make fewer mistakes each week."
The Scranton Ice Royals are coached by former ECHA Coach of the Year Bill Fitzgerald and are coming off wins over Rutgers and Lehigh this past weekend. Last year the Ice Royals finished with an overall record of 13-11-0. This mark includes an 11-game winning streak that not only set a school record but propelled the team into the ECHA tournament.
The Navy Midshipmen have recent wins over Rutgers and the aforementioned Scranton. They are led by head coach Rick Randazzo and freshman goaltender Eric Anderson. Anderson is a big reason why the Mids are undefeated entering this weekend with a 2.79 GAA. The Midshipmen finished last year with an overall record of 16-13-1.
Admission is $7.50 for adults and $5 for students with IDs for both games.

UNIVERSITY PARK, P.A. - The No. 2 ranked Penn State Icers kick-off the 2006-07
hockey season at the Ice Pavilion this Friday night with the annual Blue/White
Game. Game time is set for 9:15 p.m.
According to first-year head coach Scott Balboni, the Icers will be working
on their new offensive and defensive systems while adapting to new rule changes.
"Were going to try to be offensively skilled and a very aggressive
team," Balboni said. Many of the changes the team will be implementing
this year will have more to do with the changing climate of the game itself
rather than Balbonis own personal views.
The NCAA Men's and Women's Ice Hockey Rules Committee made several rule changes
for the upcoming season, the biggest dealing with icing. According to the
American Collegiate Hockey Association's (ACHA) website, when the attacking
team attempts a pass that is deemed receivable by the official, icing will
be nullified. This change, which was enacted in the National Hockey League
this past season, allows play to continue therefore increasing offensive opportunities.
The Icers will split into two teams and scrimmage for two 25-minute halves.
Suiting up with the team will be one line from Penn State's Division II team.
Rosters are set, but yet to be released.
Last season marked the ninth-consecutive year that the Icers advanced to the
ACHA National Championship game. They lost their third national championship
game in a row to then No. 1 ranked Rhode Island, 3-1.
Balboni, who is making his head coaching debut after replacing longtime Icers
coach Joe Battista, is excited to start the season.
"Optimistically, we have a very strong team. It'll all depend on how
everybody comes together," Balboni said. "We'll have some growing
pains along the way, but we're going to try to work through those as a team
and see what we can accomplish."
The Icers have only two returning seniors in Forward Mike McMullen and Goaltender
Chris Matteo. The bulk of the roster is comprised of Sophomores led by last
year's top scorer, Lukas DeLorenzo.
The team will be on the ice from 7:30-8:30 p.m. for a public skating session
with the community. Participants in the public skating session who wish to
attend the game can do so for free with a paid receipt from the public skating
session. Otherwise admission will be $1.
On Oct. 7 the Icers will travel to Washington & Jefferson College to play
the Presidents and then the following day to the Iceoplex in Pittsburgh to
play NCAA Division-I Robert Morris University.
